A Wearable Electrochemical Sensing System for Non-Invasive Monitoring of Lithium Drug in Bipolar Disorder

نویسندگان

چکیده

Lithium represents the main drug for treatment of Bipolar Disorder (BD) as it acts a mood stabilizer. However, because its narrow therapeutic window, psychiatric patients are obliged to frequent tests in hospital control their lithium blood concentration during therapy. In this paper, we fabricate first time complete non-invasive system Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) sweat people suffering from BD. The wearable electrochemical sensing platform includes paper fluidics and stable Reference Electrode (RE). detection is based on use potentiometric Ion-Selective (ISE) with nanostructured solid contact order increase potential stability sensor. A chemical chlorination combined PVC membrane doped an Ionic Liquid (IL) used minimize possible drifts RE. Nernstian response (56.8±3.9 mV /decade) range clinical interest then proved aqueous solution sweat. integration transporting fresh sample area also considered. already tested collected reservoir made slow adsorbing paper. successfully simulated setup by using mannequin. measured well compared predicted ones window drug, proving good capability artificial

A Comparison of Serum Lithium Levels for Maintenance Therapy of Bipolar Mood Disorder

Numerous studies have been done on using low serum lithium levels for maintenance therapy of bipolar mood disorder over the past 30-40 years. In this study we sought for the most suitable serum lithium level that having longer relapse's interval periods and less side effects as to recommended it as a maintenance serum lithium level. Thus, we studied 90 patients with bipolar mood disorder (accor...

Lithium treatment for bipolar disorder.

This section looks back to some of the ground-breaking contributions to public health, reproducing them in their original form and adding a commentary on their significance from a modern-day perspective. To complement this month’s theme of the Bulletin, Philip B. Mitchell and Dusan Hadzi-Pavlovic review the 1949 paper by John F.J. Cade on the use of lithium salts in the treatment of psychotic e...

A safe lithium mimetic for bipolar disorder

Lithium is the most effective mood stabilizer for the treatment of bipolar disorder, but it is toxic at only twice the therapeutic dosage and has many undesirable side effects. It is likely that a small molecule could be found with lithium-like efficacy but without toxicity through target-based drug discovery; however, therapeutic target of lithium remains equivocal. Inositol monophosphatase is...
